Figueres

I'm not going to pretend this is anything less than a last minute post to try to preserve the whole "monthly"part of the adventure of the month, but desperate times, desperate measures, folks. I am posting some photos that I had never intended to post . These photos are of my visit to the oh-so-cool Salvador Dali museum in his hometown of Figueres, Spain, and are not so great. The problem has nothing to do with the displays, which are designed by the artist himself, in such a way that you can practically experience the mind of a genius yet keep a comfortable distance, or even less with the building, an old theater, re-purposed with an eye towards immortality. It has more to do with the tourists who are incapable of appreciating a work of art without feeling it necessary to place their overextended asses in front of said piece of art. They have come to a town which is on the map solely because of Dali's vision, yet they are incapable of letting that vision stand on its own. They feel compelled to pose and primp before every painting. sculture and installation. It is infuriating and it is enough to make someone want to skip a post. But it is Sept. 30th, it was a place that I thoroughly enjoyed and on second thought, instead of ignoring it, I want to exhalt this unique, spectacular museum, awkward angles be damned...just do yourself a favor, buy the postcards, and don't let the narcissists get you down.

  1. Well, you did a fairly good job at avoiding them in the pictures. The last shot is pretty cool with the drawing on the sidewalk reflecting on the metal pole.
